Smart from the Start: Embedding O&M into bridge design
Information
The SCI’s much respected Best Practice Handbook for Steel Bridge Construction (P185) will have been published in its 7th edition by the time of the conference. In addition to some significant updates there is also a new guidance note on “Design for Operation and Maintenance”. This contains a checklist to help designers address the key O&M issues and priorities identified by UK bridge owners. As the author of this new guidance, Andrew will explain the background, providing project examples to highlight how the checklist should be implemented at concept design stage to achieve a sustainable and resilient future for new bridge schemes.
Baton Insight Question: How can evolving design codes help create bridges that adapt to future technologies, sustainability goals, and long-term maintenance needs?
